Return to Sri Lanka Lunch
Sunday 25th March 2012 from 12 noon“In May of 2008 I was approached by Merrill J Fernando of Dilmah Tea International to be one of 8 chefs from around Australia to help celebrate Dilmah’s 20th Anniversary in Australia. Part of these celebrations included a trip to Sri Lanka for ten days; there we embarked on an epic journey that changed my life forever!
We cooked in small villages using only small clay pots and made fires beneath from wood that the villagers had gathered that morning along with herbs, vegetables and fish from the river.
We cooked in dry river beds, tea fields high in the mountains, on beaches and one of the most memorable moments at Dilmah headquarters showing the MJF kids how to make breakfast, Aussie style. There are over 100 of these children that have been ‘adopted’ by the Fernando family and through this fund are educated and nurtured to help improve their lives for the future.
The people of Sri Lanka are truly remarkable, from such hardship and poverty I would not have expected to see such generosity and kindness. There I saw a side of humanity that I had not seen before and I will never forget it!
I wish to return one day as a volunteer, Sri Lanka and the Fernando family will stay in my heart and thoughts forever.” Paul ForemanCelebrate the vintage with us. Flinders is an Island filled with natural wonders that go well beyond the landscape, ocean and sky. The crayfish are sweet and succulent, the lamb tender and delicate from the sea salt laced grasses that they feed upon and vegetables that have been so lovingly nurtured as only to be reflected in their flavour. Flinders Island really is a paradise that enriches the senses; calms the spirit and soothes the soul.
Come and join Gill and myself on February 5th to experience the tastes and tales of Flinders Island. Paul Foreman
